Good to know
According To The Rome IV Diagnostic Criteria, Constipation Is More Than Just Reduced Stool Frequency
Functional constipation is classified by 2 or more of the following criteria:
• Straining during bowel movements
• Lumpy or hard stools (see stool chart for guidance)
• Less than 3 spontaneous bowel movements in a week
• The sensation of incomplete evacuation
• The sensation of anorectal obstruction or blockage
• The need for manual manoeuvres to facilitate defecation
Inadequate Bowel Cleansing Is A Leading Cause Of Failed Colonoscopies
Adequate bowel preparation is essential to ensure sufficient visualisation of the colonic mucosa and to optimise lesion detection for successful colonoscopy.
Up to one-quarter of colonoscopies may be conducted with inadequate bowel preparation, which is correlated with lower detection of polyps and adenomas versus adequate preparation.
